Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm peak flight has subsided across much of the corn-growing region, but lingering moth and larvae concerns remain especially across the eastern Great Lakes and into southeastern Canada. Moderate risks for continued isolated to scattered trouble spots are in place across northeastern lower Michigan through today but risks are confined mainly to southern Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada through the next five days. Low risks remain in place near the eastern Great Lakes region but problems are expected to be isolated especially as crops advance more quickly past critical stages in their growth with the recent warm weather. Growers especially in southeastern Canada should continue to monitor their corn and dry bean fields for signs of western bean cutworms and take appropriate action as needed.
