Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm flight is predicted to commence in the next few weeks across portions of the corn-growing region. Initial Low emergence risks are in place across northern Kansas and southern Nebraska as well as southwest Ontario, Canada in the short term, while a few moths will continue to appear in the next week across portions of southern and central Wisconsin as well as northern Indiana, far northwest Ohio, and southern/southeastern Michigan. A few moths were caught in portions of Indiana this week which signals the beginning of emergence in that portion of the corn-growing region. Growers are advised that crops in many of these areas are not at susceptible stages to damage as of yet so only Low awareness risks that this particular insect should begin appearing this growing season are in place at this time.
