Western bean cutworm emergence should commence in the next week especially in the southwestern corn-growing region where heat unit accumulations are presently the highest (between 1100-1200 GDUs since May 1). In addition, hot/humid weather is predicted across this region and 25% emergence thresholds will be approached or met at field sites from north-central Kansas east into western Missouri by next week. Thus, Low western bean cutworm development risks are introduced to the very end of this forecasting period across this region. Otherwise, expect a few moths to appear from time to time especially across the western and central corn-growing region over the next five days.
