Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm flight is underway across portions of the corn-growing region. Moth counts in most areas remain rather low but are expected to increase in the weeks ahead. With corn now entering or expected to enter tasseling/silking stages, Low risks are being introduced to the forecast by late this week and into next weekend in the usual western bean cutworm hot-spots in northern Kansas into Nebraska and also in central/northern Indiana, far southwest lower Michigan, and southern Wisconsin as well as far northern Illinois. Growers with tasseling/silking corn are advised to monitor trap counts as the crop enters a critical growth stage where insect damage could potentially occur.
