Western bean cutworm development/emergence risks will continue to spread north through the next five days as heat unit accumulations continue to increase into critical emergence thresholds. The greatest risk area presently is focused especially between I-80 and I-90 from Nebraska and southern South Dakota east through Iowa, northern Illinois, and into the southern Great Lakes region. By late this weekend, the primary focus area shifts a little further north into southern Minnesota, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, southwest Ontario, and into Ohio. Risks are being reduced in the southern and southwest corn-growing region since trap counts indicate the peak flight has now passed.
