Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm flight is underway across a portion of the Plains states. Moth captures are increasing especially at locations in Nebraska, and with corn now entering into critical growth phases, western bean cutworm risks are now in the forecast. Low risks are predicted for much of this week from northern Kansas into Nebraska as the flight is likely to continue to intensify and expand further north and east. By late week and into the weekend, Moderate risks are predicted for north central Kansas and southern Nebraska. Additionally, Low risks are in the forecast by that same time across sandier soils of Wisconsin. Growers should continue to monitor traps and also what stage(s) field corn and fresh-market/sweet corn fields are in and take appropriate action if threshold values warrant it in the coming weeks.
