Alert Details

Western bean cutworm risks will continue in the forecast this week as the annual flight intensifies especially across portions of the Great Lakes region. Moderate risks do remain in place across Nebraska for the next week, but in general the flight is subsiding in the Plains as evidenced by declining trap counts especially in southern Nebraska. Rather high but scattered trap counts continue especially in northern and northwestern Indiana, and reports in the last week indicate that the flight is intensifying in lower Michigan and also into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks remain in place across northern Indiana and have been expanded north and northeast in the next week across lower Michigan and also into typical hot spots in southern Ontario, Canada. Low risks for more isolated moth captures and potential problems are found in far eastern Minnesota, Wisconsin, northeast Illinois, northwest Pennsylvania, western and upstate New York, and also into southeast Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada. Growers should continue to monitor trap captures and check for egg masses in areas where captures are higher in the week ahead.
