Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm flight is now winding down across much of the corn-growing region, with the exception of across the Great Lakes region and into southern Canada where high trap counts continue. Moderate risks remain in the forecast for the next week across portions of lower Michigan into southern Ontario, Canada, with Low risks from extreme northeast Indiana into northern Ohio, lower Michigan, southern and southeastern Ontario, southwest Quebec, Canada, and also into some fields in northwest Pennsylvania, western and upstate New York, and potentially into fresh-market fields in Vermont, as well. Growers especially in eastern lower Michigan and southern Ontario and Quebec, Canada should monitor crops closely in the week ahead. The main risk from here on out will focus in the eastern Great Lakes as the flight continues to subside over the next couple weeks.
