Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm flight is winding down quickly across much of the corn-growing region, but some remaining issues may still be present especially in the eastern Great Lakes region. Low risks remain in the forecast this week and into next weekend across portions of lower Michigan into southern Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada, as some moths and egg-laying may still be present in some fields in these areas. Growers in or near the Low risk area should continue to monitor traps and scout fields, especially in late or re-planted fields. The overall threat from this insect, however, should be very limited and we anticipate removing the remaining risk area from the forecast by next week.
