Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm emergence and peak flights continue especially from central Wisconsin east through Michigan and into Ontario, Canada as well as along the southeast shores of Lake Erie and Ontario. Additional higher catches are also possible further west into portions of Minnesota and South Dakota based on heat unit accumulation but problems in these areas should be more isolated.
Looking ahead to next week, High/Moderate risk areas will continue to be reduced especially west of Lake Michigan but also into Michigan and south of the Great Lakes as any remaining peak flights in these areas will likely have passed based on current trap counts and field reports in the last few days. The primary focus by late next week will likely be in Canada where heat unit accumulations are the lowest of all corn-growing regions.
