The annual western bean cutworm moth flight is well underway and is reaching peak levels especially in the central Plains states. Moderate risks are in place across far northern Kansas into Nebraska in the next week, and additional Moderate risks are in place across mainly the Central Sands and portions of central/southern Wisconsin and east into northern Indiana, far northwest Ohio, southern lower Michigan, and east into southern Ontario, Canada, as well. Growers that are located in areas where western bean cutworms have historically caused problems should be regularly checking traps and scouting both corn and dry bean fields for signs of western bean cutworms and/or their resultant damage. The moth flight is expected to increase across the Great Lakes region in the next few weeks so diligent scouting and monitoring is recommended moving forward.
