Alert Details

Western bean cutworms continue to cause problems in scattered areas of the corn-growing region but especially across Nebraska and then further east into the Great Lakes region. Moth flights are peaking in Nebraska at this time as well as across Wisconsin, northern Indiana and far northwest Ohio, and into lower Michigan as well as east into southern Ontario, Canada with treatment being needed and applied in some areas. Moderate risks remain in the forecast in the next week across Nebraska, Wisconsin, northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, lower Michigan, and east into Ontario, Canada. Growers should scout their own fields and not rely simply on what the local coffee shop gossip or extension report is saying as problems with western bean cutworms have been rather intense but not widespread. If threshold counts are being met or exceeded, treatment may be needed on a field-by-field basis.
