Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm moth flight is winding down in many areas now, and with most crops advancing past critical growth stages (except in the eastern Great Lakes region), the overall risk is now being lowered in our forecast. Moderate risks do remain in place across central and portions of southeastern lower Ontario, Canada for the next few days, but by late week and into next weekend, only Low risks are in place even across this area. Low risks do remain in the forecast for the next few days from Wisconsin east into central and eastern lower Michigan, but the risk across Wisconsin will not be in place by late week as the flight has effectively ended in that state and any remaining problems should be very isolated, at best. Growers with crops still at susceptible stages of damage, especially in southern Ontario, Canada, should continue to scout fields and look for egg masses as well as potential feeding damage over the next week or so.
