Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm moth flight is subsiding in many areas except across portions of the Great Lakes region and into southern Canada. With crops advancing past critical growth stages and the flight subsiding, overall risk levels and coverage were reduced across the central Plains with Low risks now mainly focusing across western into northern Nebraska and southern South Dakota. Additional Low risks are found for lingering potential issues especially across the central sands in Wisconsin and also across northern Indiana and northwest Ohio where some moth captures are still occurring and where some fields may still be susceptible to damage. The primary focus, however, is across far northern lower Michigan east into southern Ontario, Canada where crops are most likely to be at stages where damage could occur and where moth captures/egg laying may still be ongoing. These areas are in a Moderate risk for this week into next weekend, but even there we expect to remove the Moderate risk by next week as crops advance past critical stages of growth and as the flight subsides for this growing season.
