Alert Details

A rather quick-moving weather system is expected to impact a good portion of the corn-growing region over the next 3-4 days. Southerly winds are expected to increase in the Plains states and western corn-growing region initially, and Low migration risks are in place tonight into tomorrow mainly west of the I-35 corridor from Minneapolis, Minnesota south to near Kansas City, Missouri. Low risks then expand east tomorrow night into Saturday, all the way to near Lake Michigan and the I-57 corridor in eastern Illinois. Greatest migration risk tomorrow night appears focused in Iowa, southeast Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, and portions of western/northern Illinois. By Saturday night into Sunday, a cold front should push into the Great Lakes with most migration risks confined to areas along/south of I-80 west of Lake Michigan and then further northeast into lower Michigan and far southwest Ontario, Canada, with Low risks lingering mainly across the I-70 corridor from Kansas into Missouri and southern Illinois late in the weekend and early next week. Growers should continue to check traps and scout fields, especially where corn or other produce/vegetables are at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage.
